Food For The Soul

We spend hours at the grocery store sorting through various types of fruits and vegetables. Sometimes we cannot decide if we should get organic and non-organic. Do we want something with less pesticides or does it matter? We also spend several hours a week at the gym lifting weights or running on the treadmill. We are trying to make sure we remain in good health. I want to pose a question: How is the health of our spiritual life? Spiritual health is just as important as our physical health. It is important to make sure we are also spiritually healthy.  Now-a-days we read and research everything.

We read the back of food labels, protein shake labels, etc. We read and monitor the amount of sugar and sodium that we put into our bodies. We make sure we eat just the right amount of salt and sugar each day. We also ensure that we are get the right amount of protein and vitamins each day. We really are cautious with what we put into our bodies.

Spiritual health is equally important as physical health. How can I be spirituality healthy? There are a lot of ways to make sure you are spiritually healthy. Reading the bible, spending time with God, and praying. Conversations are also important to our spiritual health. What type of conversations are we having with friends and family? It is important to be cautious of the things we discuss with others because those things can manifest and hinder our spiritual growth. Entertainment. What movies and music are we listening to?

Have you ever noticed that certain songs on the radio can cause you to have a change in behavior or you feel like you want to go out to the club? Believe it or not,we do need to be mindful of the movies and music that we entertain ourselves with. The entertainment we allow in our lives can cause unhealthy habits to  manifest in our lives.

For example, you could start to experience changes in your behavior because of the entertainment that you are viewing or listening to. You could develop financially problems or even relational problems and so forth. It is important that we pay close attention to our spiritual health. We know that eating chips, candy, and soda all the time can cause health problems. Spiritual health is just the same. We cannot fill ourselves with junk and expect to be spiritually healthy. We will start to develop spiritual health problems. Sometimes the unhealthy entertainment we engage in causes us to be tolerant of certain things, which can in return hinder our relationship in the Lord.
