The Unfamiliar
Breanna and Chelsea are in the breakroom talking.
“I just don’t know how things are going to play out with Nick and me,” Breanna says.
“What do you mean?”
“He’s just so different than any other guy I have dated. I mean, he is not Rick. He had a good job and was always there…” Breanna says.
“You’re right. He’s not Rick. Rick was controlling.
Breanna rolls her eyes.
“Do you feel that the Lord is leading you to be in this new relationship with Nick?”
“I honestly do. He treats me right, and he loves Jesus a lot. He loves him with all his heart, and I like that. He’s the type of man I want to marry, and we have similar values.”
“So, what’s the problem?” Chelsea asks.
“This is unfamiliar territory, and it scares me. Things were better when I was with Rick.”
“I know you just didn’t say that.”
“What?” Breanna says with a smile on her face.
“You and I talked almost every night about how Rick disrespected you and cheated on you. There were moments when you and I cried together because of how he treated you. Do you remember?”
Breanna sighs.
“Yes, I remember.”
“This almost reminds me of the children of Israel,” Chelsea says.
“How so?”
“Do you remember when the Lord took them out of slavery?”
“Yes,” Breanna says.
“This is very similar. It’s like the Lord removed Rick from your life. Rick, in a sense, was your slavery. The Lord brought Nick, who is the promised land, and you don’t seem to be happy with him,” Chelsea says.
“I am happy with Nick. He’s just different and not what I’m used to.”
“Right. You were semi complaining about him the other day, and today you just said he’s not Rick. I get it that you and Rick have history, but if you believe Nick is from the Lord, then you should stop comparing them. The other day when we spoke it was as if you almost longed to be back with Rick, and that’s precisely what the children of Israel did. Even though it was bad where they were prior, and they still longed to go back.
“You’re right. I am truly blessed with a wonderful godly man, and I don’t want to re-live my past. Those days were not pleasant,” Breanna says.
The two women leave the breakroom and go back to their desks and continue their conversation.

Commentary:
I sometimes think when we are in unfamiliar territory or even if we hit bumps in the road while in our new ventures of life, it causes us to look back at the past. It can be a new relationship, a new job, or another venture that the Lord has for you. Sometimes we believe that the good ole days were better than the current days. We tend to forget that those good ole days were sometimes filled with heartbreak, tears, and frustration. If God is leading you in this new territory, remember that he is with you, and you don’t have to be afraid. Being in the unknown can be scary, but you have the God of the universe guiding your ship. He’s not going to let you drown, and he loves you very much.
